There is Light in you

Where does light come from?

What is its source?

Is it the sun?

And if so, where did the sun come from?

What sustains its power?

If you're looking for light, how do you find it?

Where do you look for it?

How do you 'be' in the light as God is in the light? What does that mean, and what does it look and feel like?

Jesus said:

"I am the world's Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in."*

The Psalmist said:

"Is there any place I can go to avoid your Spirit? To be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you're there! If I go underground, you're there! If I flew on morning's wings to the far western horizon, you'd find me in a minute — you're already there waiting!"*

Light isn't a place. It's a state of being. It's not something that you can jump in and out of, or something that someone can tell you where it is and how to be in it. Light is something you discover and live into and through and with and in, with your heart and spirit. It's personal and intimate.

Old King David said:

"It's a fact: darkness isn't dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they're all the same to you."*

Light is even in darkness. Light can do that. It transcends, rather than excludes.

In her book, The Most Beautiful Thing I've Seen, Lisa Gungor said:

"You look around. It's a struggle at first, blinking and squinting in the dark, tense hands stretched out in front of you to feel your way along. The darkness begins to teach you how to trust your heart when your eyes can't see, and how to let go of the illusion that you ever saw reality in the first place. So you embrace the darkness, and it is like your body's sight comes to life."

Jesus said of his friends:

"You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives."*

Friend, the light you're looking for is in you. It IS you. It's not outside of you, it's not something you attain or buy or achieve. It's something you turn towards with your awareness, with trust and by faith.

We've been sold a lie that to find the light and be in it we have to deny the self, divorce ourselves from our bodies, condemn our hearts, and stick to a certain set of rules and behaviours, be good and clean and pure and above reproach. But God isn't out there somewhere. Divinity is IN you, woven into your blood and breath and bones. God isn't in you because you can achieve a certain standard of unrealistic goodness and perfection. God is in you because where else would God be?

All you have to do to find, to see it, to experience it, is open your spirit, unleash your heart, and let it shine.

You are the source.

It includes daily devotionals, FREE Mindful Prompt notifications (no subscription needed), phone wallpapers and more. Mindful Prompt*: Take a moment and find a quiet place where you can sit, close your eyes and settle into your breath. Feel your body rise and fall as it takes air in, and expels it out. Consider light. Make light the focus of your attention. Take that focus to any places you consider dark in your life. Consciously, and deliberately, embrace those places of darkness. Accept that they are there, and that they are good, and that they have wisdom and energy and love for you to find within them. And as you do this, watch the light within you grow. (*Included every day, in the app now as a FREE daily push notification - no subscription necessary!)
