Are you tired of waiting to be rescued?
The last two years, almost exactly to this day, were like a crucible of sorts for me. Things changed, shifted. My sense of self and security were thrown overboard. I realized with startling clarity that any sense of control I had was an illusion. I had lulled myself into an ignorant comfort, and, to be completely honest, the part of me that was still healing from trauma desperately wanted to stay in a place where I was not challenged.
But we never do, do we?
I am done waiting for rescue. I am tired of the idea that I need a savior, as if my job is to merely submit and succumb. As if all I’m good for is to admit defeat and follow rules. As if God created something God is no longer proud of.
Jesus told his friends that death and resurrection wasn’t just one thing they witnessed, it was something they could live, too, that they could experience, too, in all the ways that we do, in all the ways that life rises and falls, ebbs and flows, stifles and blooms.
And yet, many who call themselves Christian only want a front-row seat to a show where they witness a rising. Where they can feel the exhilaration but don’t have to participate in the risk. Where they can applaud and declare and giggle with glee afterward about the things they liked and the things they didn’t while they have another drink and complain about the price of admission, but never have to get involved beyond audience level.
How long will we wait for something that has already happened? That IS happening? That is in process right now?
What would it look like to embody resurrection? In 2024? To be participants of it here and now in the lives that we have?
You are not the same person you used to be. You’ve died a thousand times in a thousand ways… it’s natural, normal, organic. It’s how the world works. It’s how you work.
You are always you, and you are always becoming new. Becoming more true. Evolving, rising, changing.
What is rising in you? What do you need to come to life?
Rise to your resurrections. Participate. Engage. Integrate. Be present to them.
Whatever caused that death, whatever died, whatever ended and finished, and burned you to a pile of ash… something new will rise from you.
And isn’t it wonderful to think about what and how and when? Isn’t it a revelation to be a part of that rising? You don’t need to wait for the miracle because you are already it.
CONSIDER THIS: “No matter what is going on in your life today, remember, it is only preparation. People come and go; situations rise and fall; it's all preparation for better things. You must stretch, reach, grow into your goodness. Without the preparation we receive through adversity, disappointment, confusion, or pain, we could not appreciate the goodness when it arrives.” Iyanla Vanzant.
