Know this: You are already worthy

When the world demands you prove yourself, take on board this mantra of Brené Brown's:

"Don't puff up.
Don't shrink back.
Stand your sacred ground."

The truth is most people and places and things that demand you prove yourself will never be satisfied no matter how much you twist and fold yourself up to fit inside their narrow standards of acceptance and belonging.

Know this:
You are already beloved.
You are already accepted.
There is no such thing as being worthy because the idea of being worthy or unworthy is not in alignment with the energy of The Divine.
Worthy is a foundational element of your existence.
You don't have to prove it to anyone, you only have to believe it for yourself.

You have nothing to prove, only a life to live, so leave behind the game of worthiness and engage the life that you have with your body, soul, and heart.

You have nothing to prove, but maybe you want some proof. You need a sign, about any and all of it.

Know this:
Your questions are important and holy and part of the journey. The sign you've been looking for might not look like what you expect or want or within the realms of what you currently know, so keep your heart and eyes open. Be willing to be surprised.

A dove may not fly through your window holding an olive branch (Gen 8:11).
The bushes in the yard might not burst into flame and speak to you (Ex 3).
The fleece you put out at night might get stolen rather than stay dry or get wet. (Judges 6).
The walls might not come tumbling down, writing may or may not appear on the wall… signs and wonders may not happen for all to see.

But that doesn't mean there are no signs, that there is no proof, that things aren't happening all around you, hidden in plain sight, happening beneath your nose, under your skin, in your bones.

When the bush opened its fiery arms and heart to Moses that day in the desert, did the ground suddenly become holy because it wasn't the very moment before?

Or had it been holy all along, and it took a burning bush to light up the truth of it?

What do you see?
What are you trying to achieve?
What is proof going to do for you?

Rumi said:

"Run from what's comfortable. Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious."

In other words, maybe the proof you're looking for happens as you take that leap of faith, as you live your life, as walk towards the cave you fear to enter to find the treasure you seek, as you question and seek and hold the tension of what you know and what you don't in both of your hands because I know this much is true:

An instant miracle, a moment of glory, a sheet of paper with points and lists, a show of validation, the roar of the crowd… these things are not proof…

they're just events.

Jesus said that the sign you'll get is the sign of Jonah… it's the proving of life, just like with bread, it's what happens as you live.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote:

"Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
But only he who sees, takes off his shoes,
The rest sit around it and pluck blackberries,
And daub their natural faces unaware
More and more from the first similitude."

My prayer for you is that you'll find that burning bush again, and again, again, and that you'll take your shoes off each and every time you do.

Mindful Prompt: Your questions are important and holy and part of the journey. The sign you've been looking for might not look like what you expect or want or within the realms of what you currently know, so keep your heart and eyes open. Be willing to be surprised.
